Ko Mauao ki te raki, ko Hikurangi ki te rāwhiti. Ko Tauranga moana ki tai, ko Waiapu awa ki uta. Tēnei au, o Tūkairangi, o Porourangi. Ka huri. Mihikeita Ngata is a Māori artist based between Tauranga Moana and Te Tairāwhiti, with whakapapa to Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Porou, Raukawa ki Wharepūhunga, and Ngāti Tahu-Ngāti Whaoa. She is a multi-media artist that predominantly works in Graphic Design and Digital Illustration through her pakihi (MITA Creative), though she also uses rotarota (poetry) and contemporary applications of whatu to occupy her mind and hands. Although having explored creative pursuits as a teenager, her passion and expression in mahi toi wasn't drawn out until her first pregnancy and the traditional kōrero this forced her to explore. Since then, majority of her work has been fixed within the black and white spectrum (āo, pō, as it appears to tamariki and strengthens pattern recognition) in both the written and visual contexts."
