In 1983 / 84, I was trained in whakairo rakau and wheua at Maraeroa Marae in Porirua under the expert eyes of Louis Te Kouarehua Kereopa.  I went on to teach whakairo at Maraeroa and Whitireia Polytechnic for 17 years.  I have demonstrated and exhibited nationally and internationally including San Diego USA, Noumea New Caledonia and Australia.  Over the years I extended my scope to include design, drawing and painting.

More recently I have been exploring digital art and have been developing my knowledge and skill in carving pounamu.
