Collective(s):

Pimia Wehi was a beloved and influential leader in Māori performing arts, known for her exceptional contribution to the development of kapa haka in Aotearoa. As a co-founder and guiding force behind Te Waka Huia, one of the most celebrated kapa haka teams in the country, she brought vision, discipline, and deep cultural insight to every performance.

Alongside her husband Dr Ngapo Wehi, Pimia nurtured generations of performers, composers, and leaders. Her mastery of waiata, karanga, and performance composition was grounded in tikanga Māori and a strong connection to whakapapa, which she upheld with unwavering dedication.

A mentor, cultural bearer, and creative powerhouse, Pimia Wehi helped shape the evolution of kapa haka as both a competitive art form and a living expression of Māori identity and storytelling.
