Brett Graham

Collective(s):

Brett Graham is a leading contemporary sculptor known for large-scale works that fuse Māori cultural knowledge with global histories of power, resistance, and memory. His practice is rooted in kaupapa Māori and draws on the forms of whakairo, architecture, and conceptual art to create sculptural works that challenge colonial narratives and reassert Indigenous presence in public and institutional spaces.

Graham’s works have been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the Venice Biennale and the Biennale of Sydney. His pieces often address themes of sovereignty, warfare, and Indigenous futures, with powerful materiality and precise craftsmanship. Through his practice, Graham advances Māori perspectives in contemporary art while honouring traditional forms and mātauranga.
