Allen Wihongi is a respected Māori artist, educator, and cultural leader. His practice spans whakairo (carving), mixed-media art, and design grounded in Ngāpuhi heritage and tikanga. Allen’s work reflects a deep commitment to Māori cultural expression, education, and community development.
Alongside his artistic practice, Allen has contributed extensively to iwi governance and cultural projects, including serving as Māori design consultant for the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior at the National War Memorial. He has also held senior roles in Te Rūnanga-ā-Iwi-o-Ngāpuhi, supporting hapū development and iwi initiatives. In recognition of his contributions to Māori arts and culture, he received the Sir Kingi Ihaka Award at the 2019 Te Waka Toi Awards.
